The open office layout can be a pet hate for any office worker. The constant distractions, phone calls and background noise can mean many employees struggle to get their head down and concentrate on what they really need to.

Light, bright and airy

Large windows and light paint are the order of the day when it comes to decorating an office. Anything too dark can effect employees’ moods and if you choose a busy wallpaper it can prove distracting.

Keep it neutral and add a few accessories or touches to make an office ‘homely’. You can do this by incorporating your brand colours, or even popping your logo on the mugs in the kitchen. Small efforts can make a much bigger difference than you think.

Space is a deal breaker for a lot of employees. If employees feel too cramped this can affect not only their mood, but their productiveness and creativity levels. A 2010 study revealed that office plants are great for reducing stress in workers, with a 37% reduction in tension and anxiety, a 58% reduction in depression and dejection and a 44% reduction in anger and hostility.

You can even help keep your employees on their toes, as plants also proved to reduce fatigue by 38%, the study reported.
