A report by Hoofdkraan.nl has revealed the best city to freelance in, so get those sunnies on and bags packed!
The report focused on a number of factors to determine the city most suited to freelancers. These factors included; cost of living, weather, internet speeds, tax and overall quality of life. Check out the top five cities for freelancers below.
Lisbon, Portugal
Taking the top spot of best cities to live in for freelancers is Lisbon in Portugal. A combination of fast internet speeds, great weather, close beach proximity and a high rating for quality of life make this the prime place for you to settle down and start freelancing.
In fact, Portugal was such a popular place to freelance that Porto also made number ten as one of the best cities for freelancing.
Miami, US
If you’d prefer somewhere slightly further abroad, Miami might be the best place for you to freelance. At number two, this sunny US city is another great option is you feel that you’re destined for slightly sunnier shores than those the UK has to offer.
Miami was also rated top of the list for its fast internet and boasts the highest quality of life.
Seville, Spain
Seville is the only city in the top three that can offer a low cost of living, so if you’re looking for somewhere cheap, this is your best bet.
But just because you’re looking for somewhere inexpensive to live, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice the lovely weather. The average temperature in Seville is 9°C during December and January and rises to highs of 36°C in July and August.
Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
Co-capital of Gran Canaria with Santa Cruz, Las Palmas is rated fourth on the list for being the best city for freelancers to live in.
Its stunning weather, beaches and natural beauty were the reasons it ranked well according to freelancers. If you think Las Palmas is your ideal freelancing spot, make sure you head to Playa de las Canteras – it’s considered to be one of the world’s best city beaches, so it’s definitely worth checking out!
New Orleans, US
New Orleans comes in at number five on the list. If you’re a night owl and love to socialise with friends, New Orleans is the freelancing city for you. It is the only city in the top five that made it for having a great nightlife and for having plenty for people to do.
Add that to the high quality of life and fast internet speeds and you have a match made in heaven.
The only UK city to make the top ten was Bristol, coming in at number six. Its easy transport links and safe area, as well as numerous places to work from, earned Bristol one of the top spots representing the UK.
Other cities in the top ten include; Marseille (France), Bratislava (Slovakia), Vancouver (Canada) and Porto (Portugal).
